Body Wellness
This is the first of four videos in the Mind-Spine Connection series where I sit down with my personal chiropractor, Dr. Sydne, to discuss how our spinal health impacts our mental health.
It’s not that hard to be healthy, to find balance in the way we eat, move, and care for ourselves that best serves body and mind. This is one of the most healing, reassuring lessons I learned from a nutritionist back in college. And since then I’ve studied, researched and read about the how and why, embodied it in my own life, and have taught it to and seen it take shape in that of my clients’!
As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, I encourage my clients to make food and lifestyle choices out of a desire for health and quality rather than a concern for weight and calories. And results from a recent study support this gentler approach. Participants were asked to focus on food quality, not calories. Over the course of a year, participants not only lost weight but said that shifting focus to quality changed their relationship with food. Read more to learn why.
It's finally here! A probiotic-rich, fermented salad you can easily make in your very own kitchen! This Beet and Red Cabbage Sauerkraut boasts the good-for-you bacteria that we all want in (but are usually missing from) our diet. And I'm so excited to finally be sharing a friendly, approachable, and delicious fermented recipe with you!
It's a new year -- Happy 2018, you guys! There's something about starting a new year - even though, technically, I know nothing has changed between the 31st and the 1st - that makes me feel lighter, refreshed, and inspired. But in all honesty, we don't need to wait for January for a fresh start. I'm sharing a two-minute strategy I use to reset and get clear on my intentions, any day, any month. And in terms of food, this Everyday Dal is the ultimate reset, whatever the need. It's been one of my go-to recipes for years, whether I need a warm and nourishing pantry meal or a hearty breakfast (yep!).
Healthy & Sane is a three-part video series I've developed in response to the numerous heartfelt conversations I've had with others struggling with their relationship to food and body.
It answers a question most of us have asked ourselves at some point:
"How can I have a healthier approach to food I feel good about and can stick to?"
I was recently interviewed by a Madrid-based yoga instructor, Eliza Coolsma. Her thoughtful questions inspired me to pay close attention to the daily rituals that contribute to my well-being. And I'm sharing the interview here in case it inspires you too. If you want to learn more about my early morning routine, favorite seasonal breakfasts, thoughts on balance and why I prefer not to focus on happiness, keep reading!
As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Spring is when I'm asked about detoxes and juice cleanses. When we're eager to reset food habits, slim down, and lighten the load on digestion, I know a five-day detox program promising a quick-fix looks tempting. But while detoxing makes us feel like we're doing something proactive for our health,....
Happy New Year! If you're anything like me, you've had your fill of holiday fun and are ready to hit the reset button in the kitchen. But sometimes this good intention to reset comes from a sense of guilt and obligation, and we believe a diet is the only way to "fix" our body and recent indulgences. A reset isn't necessarily harmful, but.....
'Tis the season when our calendars get increasingly busier by the day. We're inundated with obligations and parties and holiday prepping. Maybe some of us feel pressure to "perform"; to put on our stage face and decorate, bake, and shop more than we'd like. To continue pushing forward no matter what, because we've got to keep.checking.off that to-do list!
Recently I had a close friend say she aspires to eat healthy.
And then came the “but”.
“BUT”, she said, “I enjoy unhealthy food too much.”
Sometimes we get tricked into setting idealistic standards for ourselves. If you follow the health and wellness space closely, you'll probably agree that the marketing for the health trend du jour makes a convincing argument for why you too .....
This is the second of four videos in the Mind-Spine Connection series where I sit down with my personal chiropractor to explore how our spinal health impacts our mental health.
In part two above, Dr. Sydne and I discuss the practice of "attunement" or paying attention to our body and the various channels through which we can pay attention in a safe and gentle way.
