(Video) Window of Tolerance: Why We Use Food to Soothe

I'm sharing a short clip from the workshop I gave a few weeks ago, Nurturing the Wise Mind for Conscious Nourishment. In the clip I talk about a psychological concept called window of tolerance to explain how and why we use food to soothe, escape, numb, or create a sense of control.

There are several steps I help my clients take to widen their window of tolerance so they can make calm, mindful and intentional choices in their food life and life in general. But the very first step is to recognize 1) a window of tolerance even exists and 2) whether we're in or out of that window, at the moment of choice.

This is a level of self-awareness we can all begin to cultivate, so I hope you find this video helpful. And if you'd like to learn tools to widen your window of tolerance and cultivate a peaceful relationship with food and body, get in touch for a free 30-minute consult.
